Queensland Fruit & Vegetable Growers’ project delivery arm, Growcom, is collaborating with the federal government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) and FNQ Food Incubator to help the region’s fresh-produce farmers plan for future success through value-adding, innovation and improved risk management. FNQ Food Incubator’s team of business advisors will offer customised, individual support to North Queensland fruit and veg growers keen to develop – or update existing – farm business plans. The adviors to support growth through initiatives such as value-adding to what would otherwise be wasted produce) and build capacity to manage risk. The program also gives North Queensland horticultural growers free access to DAFF’s Rural Financial Counselling Service, which can help ascertain an agribusiness’s risks with regard to factors including climate change, notably drought, and develop a tailored Farm Business Resilience Plan. The collaboration is part of Growcom’s Farm Business Resilience Program, available until June 2025.
