California-based dairy Clover Sonoma is making sustainability strides with the launch of a new milk carton made entirely from plant materials. It’s one of the first of its kind in the US and is scheduled to hit American retailers’ shelves mid-2020.
The company, which accounts for more than half of branded dairy sales in Northern California, told BeverageDaily.com that it felt a responsibility to do its bit for the environment, and has reduced its use of plastics and non-renewables significantly in recent years.
The new packaging, which will replace the old packaging progressively over in coming months, has a carbon footprint less than half the size of those of typical milk cartons.
