Organised by the World Packaging Organisation, the annual WorldStar Packaging Awards recognise excellence in everything from safety to smart branding to sustainability.
So eco-friendly were this year’s 345 contenders that WPO president Pierre Pienaar, commenting on the high standard of the entries at the 2021 awards, declared, “It was notable how well the entries in general reflected the focus of packaging with sustainability in mind.”
At the latest incarnation of the awards, smart and sustainable food and beverage packaging from Down Under wrapped up some major wins, giving major players including Japan, China and the US a 100 per cent-recyclable run for their money.
The Australian contenders were selected from the winners of the Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP)’s most recent Packaging Innovation & Design (PIDA) Awards program, the exclusive ‘feeder’ program for the WorldStar contest.
Top Aussie achiever was Planet Protector Packaging, recognised across a trio of categories: Food Packaging; Packaging Materials; and Components and Transit.
Planet Protector and the other Australian winners are also in the running for the WorldStar Special Awards, announced at the 2021 virtual WorldStar Awards ceremony, scheduled for May.
